Hunmanby Youth Club is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local people come together to support young people. Led by dedicated volunteers Sonia, Sonya and Gemma, alongside a growing team of community volunteers, the club provides a safe, welcoming, and engaging space for young people in the village.
Meeting on the first Wednesday of every month, the club offers a wide range of activities designed to encourage creativity, confidence, and connection. Young people can get involved in everything from crafts and team games to practical projects such as woodwork. Thanks to the generosity of supporters, the club also has access to a 3D printer, giving members the opportunity to explore technology, design, and innovation in a hands-on way.
The sessions are about much more than activities. They provide a place where young people can relax, spend time with friends and feel part of their community. There is always something to eat available, creating opportunities to relax and chat with friends, while the tuck shop remains a popular feature of every session.
As an NYY Member Club, Hunmanby Youth Club is supported by NYY’s Scarborough Youth and Community Development, who works to support the volunteer team to provide guidance, resources, and training opportunities. This partnership helps ensure the club remains sustainable and continues to meet the needs of local young people.
The club’s success reflects the passion, commitment, and generosity of its volunteers. By giving their time and skills, they are helping to create positive experiences that can make a lasting difference to young people’s lives. It is a fantastic example of a community coming together to support its younger generation.
Volunteering at a youth club can be incredibly rewarding. It offers the chance to give something back to the community, share skills and experiences, meet new people and play a key role in supporting the next generation.
