Snainton Youth Club’s Big Green Workshop

Volunteer-led youth clubs play a vital role in creating opportunities for young people, and Snainton Youth Club is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local people give their time to support their community.

With support from North Yorkshire Youth, the volunteer team at Snainton Youth Club continues to provide engaging activities that help young people learn new skills, build confidence, and explore issues that matter to them. One recent session saw young people and volunteers come together for a Big Green Workshop, creating eco-friendly bird feeders while learning more about the environment and local wildlife.

The activity provided a simple, low-cost, and enjoyable way to engage young people in conversations about sustainability. As they designed and made their bird feeders, participants explored how providing additional food sources can support local bird populations and contribute to healthier ecosystems.

The session encouraged discussions about biodiversity, environmental responsibility, and the importance of protecting local wildlife. Young people and volunteers shared ideas about how small actions can make a positive difference within their communities and explored practical ways to care for the environment in their everyday lives.

The Big Green Workshop was a wonderful example of how volunteers can inspire young people to think about the world around them, learn new skills and take positive action for the future. Through activities like these, young people gain not only practical knowledge but also a greater understanding of how they can make a difference in their local environment.
