Unlike professionals involved in a young person’s care, an Independent Visitor is separate from statutory services. Their role is to provide friendship, stability, and a listening ear, helping young people feel valued, heard, and supported as they grow in confidence and independence.
Independent Visitors spend regular time with the young person, taking part in everyday activities, exploring interests, and creating positive experiences together. The focus is on building a reliable, long-term relationship that promotes emotional wellbeing and personal development.
This service is available to children and young people in care across North Yorkshire who would benefit from having an additional supportive adult in their lives.
