At NYY, the safety and wellbeing of young people is at the heart of everything we do. Everyone involved in running a youth club or project has a responsibility to help create a safe, positive and supportive environment where young people feel secure, respected and able to speak up.
If you are ever worried about the wellbeing or safety of a child or young person, contact North Yorkshire’s Multi-Agency Screening Team (MAST) on 0300 131 2 131 for advice or to make a referral.
If a child or young person is in immediate danger, always call 999.
What Good Safeguarding Looks Like
Running a safe youth club means having the right foundations in place. This includes:
- Safer recruitment of staff and volunteers
- Clear child protection procedures
- Preventing and responding to bullying
- Avoiding accidents and running safe activities and events
- Making sure young people know who they can talk to if they have concerns
Safeguarding isn’t just paperwork — it’s about culture. It’s about creating an environment where young people feel heard, valued and protected.
Training & Support
While NYY does not deliver safeguarding training directly, our team will support clubs and projects to access the right training and guidance to meet safeguarding requirements.
Our Youth & Community Development Workers can:
- Signpost appropriate safeguarding training
- Offer one-to-one guidance
- Help review policies and procedures
- Support clubs to meet good practice standards
We’re here to work alongside you — not just at start-up, but whenever you need advice.
