Eastfield Youth Club recently marked its sixth anniversary, a significant milestone in its journey of supporting and empowering young people.

Open to young people aged 11 to 18, the club has seen some of its original attendees—who first walked through the doors on opening night—continue to engage and support the club as they transition into adulthood. As part of their personal development, many of these young people take on leadership roles, including Mentor, Team Leader, or Football Coach, allowing them to contribute while enhancing their own skills.

Claire Garton, who has been a Senior Youth Worker at Eastfield Youth Club since 2018 and also a Youth Mentor in Scarborough said: ‘’We take great pride in the relationships we have built with our members and the strong reputation the club has established in the community. Each year, we see a natural progression of new attendees, as younger children eagerly join once they reach the eligible age’’.

The club provides a welcoming and structured environment with a variety of activities available each week. Alongside a tuck shop, free fruit, refreshments, and recreational facilities such as pool, table tennis, and music, the club offers a safe space where young people can socialise and engage with Youth Workers. In the summer there are outdoor sessions including rounders and team games which encourage teamwork and participation. Older members often take on leadership roles during football matches on the nearby 4G pitch, acting as Team Captains and ensuring a fair and inclusive game for all.

Staff at the club are incredibly proud of how it has progressed, and Claire Garton sees the club acting as a bridge for personal and social development. Claire advises that many of the young people she mentors, find the club to be a valuable space to build confidence, social skills, and friendships.

The club is incredibly grateful for the financial support provided over the years by local councillor Tony Randerson, a dedicated advocate for youth projects, as well as Bernie and the team at Westway Open Arms. Their contributions have helped transform the club into a true community asset, and NYY feel privileged to be part of this ongoing journey.

NYY looks forward to seeing the club continuing to grow and thrive in the years ahead.
