Skipton’s New Youth Club Set to Open in the New Year!

The excitement has been building in Craven over the last couple of months as I have been out and about consulting with young people in Skipton on their wants and needs for local youth provision.

I have strived to ensure our consultation work has been young person focussed, allowing us to capture the ideas and suggestions of young people living in Skipton by engaging them in a variety of creative ways.

Consultations have included attendance at events throughout the town such as the Family Sports & Community Day held at Sandylands Sports Centre, Skipton Town Council Park Events & Skipton BID’s Yorkshire Day Celebrations on the high street. Young people were able to take part in various craft activities and games whilst chatting to the North Yorkshire Youth team about both existing provisions and ideas for new clubs and projects they would love to take part in.

We also held 2 pop up youth club sessions at the Broughton Road Community Centre where all young people were invited along to come and see what a youth club is all about and share their ideas of activities they enjoy that they could take part in with their friends at a youth club.

I was also fortunate to be able to collaborate with other professionals and agencies on a collaborative project which included a pop-up mobile youth base that visited the town at various locations over a 4-week period. Attending the provision each week allowed me to reach out to more young people and capture their voices and ensured young people were aware that the new club will be a welcoming and inclusive space for all.

Now the voices and ideas of young people have been captured through the consultations, I cannot wait to open the doors and welcome young people into their club, helping to turn their ideas and suggestions into reality.

Thank you also to Danielle Woolley our Change Direction Youth Mentor in Craven and Stef Benson Buddy Network & Independent Visitor Coordinator, who have helped me capture the voices of young people during the consultation events.

If you are in school years 7- 13 (aged 11-19) come and join us on Tuesday 7th January for our opening night and best of all, the first night is FREE!
